"How many billing cycles are there? Why?"

Wells Rural Electric has three different billing cycles. Cycle 1 is Carlin, Cycle 2 is Wendover, and Cycle 3 is Wells and all other rural areas.

We have three cycles because it allows us to manage our billing work processes with fewer employees reducing the overall cost of billing. For instance, it takes our meter reader between 5-7 days per month per cycle to read all of the meters in each area. If we didn't have cycles we would have to hire additional meter readers to read all of the meters in a shorter period of time. This also applies to billing. If the bills were all due on the same week we would need more employees to process all of our members' accounts.

With three cycles we can use fewer employees across the entire month.
