Communications With Members During an Outage Is A Difficult PriorityWREC is committed to electrical service reliability and to communications with our members. During a scheduled outage we are able to plan for communications with our members and do our best to notify everyone affected. With that said, we receive our power through a single transmission line over one hundred miles long. If the power goes out at any point along those one hundred miles, or even before it, then our power supply is cut off and we experience an unscheduled outage. During an unscheduled outage, communications are very difficult because most forms of communication, such as telephones and internet, require electricity to work. The best way to get information about an unscheduled outage during business hours is to call one of our area offices. However, outages can happen afterhours or on holidays and weekends when our offices are closed. That is why over ten years ago WREC partnered with the Cooperative Response Center (CRC). CRC offers us a 24/7 customer service number 1-800-566-6696, where your call is handled by a national call center whose only job is to monitor telecommunications for cooperatives like Wells Rural Electric. CRC allows WREC to economically and professionally meet our communication commitment when our offices are closed or during an unscheduled outage. The single most important thing you need to know when you call CRC is your “Account Number”. If you don’t know your account number you can find it on your monthly bill, or you can call one of our three WREC offices and ask one of our member service representatives. If you can’t remember your account number when you call CRC your account can still be looked up by your name, but in order to avoid confusion please check your monthly bill to see how your name is listed on your account. We have occasions where the account is listed under a spouse’s name, a corporate name, or even in a landlord’s name. This is why having your account number ensures that you receive the best service possible. WREC members receive great customer service when they call or come into one of our offices.
