At WREC, we love the communities we serve. While our core business is delivering safe, reliable and affordable electricity across all 10,000 square miles of our service territory, we also take our commitment to the seventh cooperative principle, “Concern for Community,” to heart. The work we get to do in each community and rural area is truly empowering!
If you have lived in this area long, you have no doubt witnessed a WREC employee donating their own time to coach local youth sports, serve important roles on local boards and councils and participate in community groups. WREC is also fortunate, as a cooperative, to get directly involved in local communities from a business standpoint.
We love hosting and supporting local events, with our Community Rally program chief among them. Each fall, WREC hosts a “Community Rally” in conjunction with each of the 4 high schools in our service territory. Rather than host member meetings focused on the cooperative, we made the decision that we’d rather drive support for our local students, schools and communities. These events annually draw more than 3,000 people with combined attendance,making them celebrations that we are truly proud of.
