COVID-19 Postpones Upcoming Events

WREC employee Thad Ballard talks with members at a Carlin Community Rally in the past. This year’s events have been postponed until they can be held safely.

At Wells Rural Electric Co., (WREC) we love the communities we serve. Part of WREC’s mission statement is to improve the quality of life for members throughout the service territory. Two of our favorite ways of showing that commitment each year is through the community rally program and the WREC Classic Basketball Tournament.

The community rally program brings together more than 4,000 people every fall to celebrate the students at each of our four high schools. The WREC Classic Basketball Tournament allows us to applaud the skills and talents of student-athletes from all over the state of Nevada.

Due to COVID-19 and the desire to prioritize the safety of members and employees alike, we are sad to announce that this year’s community rallies are being postponed and will not be held this fall. Please note we said postponed.

Rather than canceling and moving forward, we plan to leave all options on the table, including holding this year’s events in the spring if we can safely do so. Similarly, our ability to host our annual WREC Classic basketball tournament is also in question. With the Nevada Interscholastic Athletic Association delaying the start of all high school sports until January 2, 2021, the events will not take place this December. We will continue to monitor the situation and determine what might be possible in January.

Regardless of the outcome, we can’t wait for the time we can once again celebrate our communities with all our members in person.
