Below are a few steps you can take to help protect your home or cabin in case of wildfire. Consider the zones around your structure and see if there are improvements you can make using this easy guide.<\/p>\n<h2>Structure Ignition Zone (0 to 5 feet)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean your roof and outdoor fixtures (dead leaves, debris, pine needles or anything that could catch embers).<\/li>\n<li>Limit the number of trees directly in contact with the home (especially evergreen trees).<\/li>\n<li>Move flammable material away from the home (firewood, lumber, bark, anything that can burn).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Firebreak Zone (5 to 30 feet)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Clear vegetation from under large<br \/>\nstationary propane tanks.<\/li>\n<li>Keep woodpiles at least 20 feet away from structures.<\/li>\n<li>Mow lawns and native grasses.<\/li>\n<li>Remove ladder fuels (vegetation under trees and branches) so a surface fire is less likely to reach a tree\u2019s crown.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Reduced Fuel Zone\u00a0 (30 to 100 feet)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Dispose of heavy accumulations of ground litter, debris and dead plant material.<\/li>\n<li>Remove small trees growing between mature trees.<\/li>\n<li>Remove vegetation adjacent to storage sheds or other outbuildings within this area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34852 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wrec.coop\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2023-05-27-at-9.53.05-PM.png\" alt=\"Structure Ignition Zone, Firebreak Zone, Reduced Fuel Zone map\" width=\"85%\" height=\"770\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Although it may seem as though the snow has just melted, now is the time to begin taking steps to prepare for wildfire season.
