Summer Schedule Pilot Program

Last year, Wells Rural Electric Co. operations personnel adopted a four-day, 10-hour (4/10) summer work schedule in order to fully maximize the cooperative’s available resources during the heavy construction season. This schedule successfully increased the number of working hours WREC employees could spend working at project sites each day, which led to improved work productivity and efficiency for WREC crews and cost savings for members.

While the summer schedule has provided several important benefits, it also means WREC can’t provide engineering, electrician, disconnect/reconnect, energy efficiency and other services on Fridays. As a result, WREC will be running a pilot program for the next several months to evaluate maintaining office hours that better align with the services we’re able to offer during the construction season.

Starting June 1, the Wells and Carlin offices will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (as opposed to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Monday through Thursday and close on Friday while the West Wendover office will continue under normal operating hours with only drive thru payments available on Fridays. These hours are based on current data that shows a low volume of non-payment office traffic on Fridays. WREC will use this pilot period to evaluate its effect on members to inform future decisions.

It’s important to remember that members can already pay their bills and schedule many of the above services on a 24-hour, seven-day basis. Payment options will still be available via the SmartHub app on your mobile phone, tablet or home computing device. Most services can also be scheduled through SmartHub, www.wrec.coop or by calling WREC’s 24-hour outage dispatch center at 1 (800) 566-6696.
